What is it about quotes?
We all love inspirational quotes. You know what I’m talking about…Just count the number of positive quotes on your Facebook feed every day! You probably even post them yourself! It doesn’t even matter who said it first as long as it connects with something you feel at the moment or something you want to feel, do or be in the future.
Can these inspirational “affirmations” really help you get what you want by daily repetition to plant them firmly in your mind?
And…Does it really matter if you view the glass as half empty or half full?
As it turns out, it does.
If you view the glass as half empty, you tend to view your life in terms of what’s not there, rather than what is. (A negative). And the more you focus on it the more likely you are to attract more of the same. Universal Law of Attraction #1. Like attracts like.
Okay. Let’s make this simple.
You have anxiety and you really want to let it go. And, here’s what you say to yourself…
- “If I get anxious at the party, I’ll just breathe through it”.
- “I really want to let go of these feelings”.
- “Jenna breezes through her tests like they’re nothing. I want to be like her”.
- “No one has the right to make me feel this way”.
- “I’m strong. I can manage this”.
On the surface, those statements seem positive, right? Look again. What’s wrong with them?
They still focus on anxiety. (The negative). So you will continue to attract more anxiety.
And there you are, stuck in a viscious circle, even when you say that you want just the opposite. How do you get off of that merry-go-round?
Focus on the opposite feeling. Then your self-talk would look more like this:
- “I will allow calmness into my body”.
- “I am open to new ideas that enhance my life”.
- ” I am enjoying visits with my friends”.
- “Each day I have more confidence than the day before”.
- “I am looking forward to new and exciting experiences”.
The more energy and focus you give to positive feelings, the more you will attract.
There’s a reason it’s easier to focus on the negative. We’re hard-wired to focus on the “danger” of situations. This is a leftover from caveman days, when being on high alert for danger was a matter of life or death. It was a matter of survival.
But this can trip you up when your subconscious views things like making more money as a “danger”. Maybe you’ve had bad experiences with rich people. Or you think people would be asking you for loans if you had a lot of money. To counteract that, you would need to find the feeling that having money would give you (the positive). Like freedom to help your family, the ability to vacation wherever and whenever you liked, the money to put your kids through college or even buy that wonderful house you’ve always wanted.
When you begin to focus on the positives of having money (or whatever else you desire), you put yourself in alignment with whatever it will take to attract that feeling into your life. Once you are in alignment, the rest is easy. Your creativity will find ways to attract that feeling and make you open to receiving what you want.
Call it self-fulfilling prophecy, post hypnotic suggestion or the Law Of Attraction. Once you are in alignment with what you desire, you will start to notice the things that will get you there.
You will be what you think.
